Heat Recovery Wheel

Air-to-air rotary heat exchangers recover heat energy from exhaust air in ventilation systems. Supply air is fed through one half of the continuously rotating rotor while exhaust air flows in counterflow through the other half, achieving energy savings of up to 90%. Available in sensible-only and enthalpy configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions

A heat recovery wheel is a rotary air-to-air heat exchanger that transfers thermal energy between exhaust and supply air streams. By recovering up to 90 % of the energy that would otherwise be lost, it dramatically reduces heating and cooling loads — lowering energy costs in HVAC, industrial ventilation, and commercial dehumidification systems.

Yes. Integrating a heat recovery wheel with a desiccant dehumidifier or commercial industrial dehumidifier significantly improves overall energy efficiency. The wheel pre-conditions incoming air, reducing the dehumidification and cooling load on the main unit — a best practice for warehouse dehumidification and industrial dehumidification.

SORPS heat recovery wheels are available with aluminium (sensible-only), silica gel coated (enthalpy/total energy), and molecular sieve 3Å coated matrices. Silica gel dehumidifier rotors transfer both heat and moisture, making them ideal for cooling dehumidification applications such as swimming pool rooms and cold storage facilities.

Our HRW Series ranges from 500 mm to 2,400 mm diameter, handling airflows from 500 to 40,000 CMH. This covers everything from a single-room ventilation system to large-scale commercial dehumidification and warehouse dehumidification projects.

Enthalpy wheels with silica gel or molecular sieve coatings transfer moisture between air streams, pre-dehumidifying or pre-humidifying supply air. This reduces the load on downstream dehumidifier equipment — whether a desiccant dehumidifier for freezer applications or a condenser dehumidifier for general humidity control.

Yes. In cold storage and cold room facilities, a heat recovery wheel prevents warm, moist outside air from overloading the dehumidifier for cold storage. By pre-cooling and pre-drying the supply air, it reduces energy consumption and frost formation — the best way to dehumidify a cold room efficiently.
